Mayday Hills- Black and Blue
Introducing Mayday Hills. The third release in the range is Black and Blue! 100% Brettanomyces Ale fermented in American Oak Foedar.
Introducing Mayday Hills…
Mayday hills is a farmhouse beer project from Bridge Road Brewers. These beers are fermented in traditional wooden foedar tanks and reflect our township and the surrounding region. Mayday Hills.
Mayday Hills is a project inspired by a range of influences and experiences from around the globe and at home. Initially from wine and wine making 15 years ago, the through the exposure to sour and wild beer and barrel aging programs of Belgium, and further through new practices in the US craft beer industry and our own experimentation at Bridge Road Brewers.
Mayday hills aims to combine these experiences with local ingredients and influences in the creation of new and unique beer from our brewery in Beechworth.
The third release..
The third release in the range is Black and Blue.
Two separate beers were created with the same base recipe and then aged on 100kg of local Ovens Valley blackberries & blueberries. The berries have added a touch of colour and acidity and exhibit a refreshing tart character.
The base for this beer is a 6.5% ale fermented in our American oak Foeder which is fermented with Brettanomyces which produces lush tropical fruit esters and and a full mouth feel.
As the beer reached the end of it’s primary ferment, it was pitched on to 100kg of berries and allowed to undergo secondary fermentation. Each of the beers have each taken on the unique characters of the fruit, without dominating the beer.
The Black exhibits a little more acidity and has a slightly tarter finish, whilst the Blue produced a more subtle but complex aroma.
Packed in a mixed 4 pack including 2 of each berry variety.
